אגור שיף נולד בתל אביב ב- 1955, וגדל בצפון תל אביב וברמת גן.
אגור למד באקדמיה לאמנות St. Martin`s School of Art בלונדון, שם התמחה באנימציה (1977-1981) והשתלם ב- Rijks Akademie, באמסטרדם, בטכניקות של איור והדפס אומנותי (1983-1985).
פעילותו הקולנועית של אגור כללה סרטים קצרים בטכניקות מעורבות וכן סרט עלילתי באורך מלא.
בתחילת שנות ה-90' החל אגור לפרסם סיפורים קצרים שפורסמו במוספי ספרות שונים.
ספרו הראשון, קובץ הסיפורים הקצרים חיות מתות ומזג אוויר יצא בהוצאת כתר ביולי 1995.
קובץ סיפוריו השני, סיפורים לנסיעות קצרות יצא בהוצאת הקיבוץ המאוחד/ סדרת הכבשה השחורה, בדצמבר 2000.
אגור פרסם חמישה רומנים: הרגלים רעים, (הוצאת זמורה-ביתן-כנרת, נובמבר 2004), מה שרציתם (זמורה-ביתן-כנרת, אפריל 2007), בחול (עם עובד / הספרייה לעם, פברואר 2010), המאחרים (עם עובד/הספרייה לעם, נובמבר 2013), אלמוניות (עם עובד/הספרייה לעם, פברואר 2017), אשמתו של פרופסור שיף, (אחוזת בית, אוקטובר 2021).
אגור משמש כפרופסור במחלקה לאמנויות המסך באקדמיה בצלאל בירושלים.
אגור מתגורר עם אשתו רותי, בתל אביב. הוא אב לבן ובת.
השם אגור (קמץ, שורוק) נלקח מהפסוק הראשון בפרק ל' בספר משלי: "דברי אָגוּר בִּן יָקֶה, המשא, נְאֻם הגבר לאיתיאל, לאיתיאל ואֻכָּל."
Agur Schiff – bio
Agur Schiff was born in Tel Aviv in 1955 and grew up in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan.
He studied at St. Martin's School of Art in London (1978 – 1981) where he specialized in animation, (BFA hons. 1981) and continued his training in graphic arts at the Rijksakademie in Amsrerdam (1983 – 1985).
Agur won critical acclaim as a filmmaker (with short animation films and one live action feature film) before turning to writing.
His award winning debut collection of short stories Dying Animals and Bad Weather (1995) was followed by a second collection entitled Stories for Short Trips (1999) and five novels: Hergelim Ra'im (Bad Habits) 2004, Ma Sheratzitem (What You Wished For) 2007, Bakhol (In the Sand) 2010, Hame'akharim (The Latecomers) 2013, Almoniyut (Anonymity) 2017, Ashmato shel Professor Schiff (Professor Schiff's Guilt) October 2021, translated by Jessica Cohen, published by New Vessel Press N.Y. under the title Professor Schiff’s Guilt, May 2023.
Agur is a professor in the Screen Based Art Department of the Bezalel Academy of Art & Design in Jerusalem where he teaches creative writing and developing cinematic concepts.
Agur and his wife Ruti, live in Tel Aviv. They have a son and a daughter.
